• Rae - born in Scotland, raised in Canada - spent 33 years in the RCAF/Canadian Air Force - fighter pilot - test pilot - NATO staff - peacekeeping in the Sinai. I am now an aircraft accident investigator with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and maintain an airline transport pilot licence and professional engineering qualifications. I used to run marathons, then came arthritis and two very successful hip replacements which allows me to go bicycling.
• Ursula - I was born and raised in Basel, Switzerland and live since 34 years in Toronto, Canada. I have worked for over 30 years in the IT business as a computer operator, a programmer/analyst, and now as a Database Administrator. My passion is skiing. I used to run and play squash and but osteoarthritis in my knees made me switch to cycling.
• Together - We are a couple since 14 wonderful years, for both of us it is a second long term relationship. We read about the Tour d’Afrique, the subject of this blog, before the inaugural Tour and thought it would be an absolutely wonderful experience to spend four months cycling 12,000 km from Cairo to Capetown.
The orthinologists will be proud of you. You must have a good telephoto lens, and/or the animals are very tame. Keep up the excellent reporting when you can
